Taste of the Delta

Please plan to join us at the 11th annual “Taste of the Delta” at Village West Marina 6649 Embarcadero Drive, Stockton, CA 95219 – (209) 951-1551 starting at 1300 hours on Saturday July 21.  This is the Delta’s premier wine and food tasting event.  It is sponsored by the California Delta Chambers and Visitor’s Bureau to showcase area wineries and restaurants.

Here you will have an opportunity to sample the great wines and foods of the California Delta while listening to some great local music, bidding on auction items and mingling with your friends.  Come by boat or auto  to this fun happening.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a fellow in San Diego who wanted to cruise the Delta with his family in their 23 foot runabout.  I helped him with his itinerary over the phone and he called me a few days ago with a report on the trip.

They launched the boat at the KOA Tower Park Resort and from their cruised to downtown Stockton and spent their first night at the Waterfront Hotel while enjoying the theaters and restaurants near the waterfront.  The next day they cruised to Windmill Cove for lunch and from there headed up to Old Sacramento where they stayed in a local hotel and moored their craft at the Old Sacramento dock.

Next they headed to Pittsburg as a jumping off place to visit the mothball fleet in Suisun Bay.  Unfortunately the water was a little too rough for their boat so they headed back up to the Ryde hotel and stayed all night there, using their dock.  They also explored Walnut Grove and Locke before heading back to Tower Park.

All this is to show you that you do not need a large yacht to explore the Delta.  A runabout works great   and will bring you a lot of adventure.

My friends at the Sacramento Marina are having a Salmon season special.  For boats under 20′ you can have a covered slip, free launch at Miller Park, fuel discount, and 4 free bags of ice per month.  This offer is good from July to December 31, 2012.  This by the way is looking like a great year for Salmon on the Sacramento River.
